COIMBATORE – The Coimbatore Mahila Court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the brutal gang rape of a 20-year-old MBA student, a crime that shocked the region in November 2025. The court’s verdict, delivered just four months after the incident, reflects an expedited judicial process following intense public and official scrutiny.
The convicted individuals—identified as Satish (alias Karuppasamy), his brother Karthik (alias Kaleeswar), and their relative Guna (alias Thavasi)—were found guilty of abducting and assaulting the student near the Coimbatore airport.
Incident Summary
The incident occurred on the night of November 2, 2025, while the victim was parked near the airport with a male companion. According to the prosecution, the three perpetrators, who arrived on a motorcycle, used a sword to attack the victim's companion before forcibly abducting the young woman.
Following the assault, the victim's companion managed to reach a nearby police station to alert authorities. A swift police response led to the discovery of the victim in a distressed state, roughly one kilometer from the airport, in an isolated field by 4:00 AM the following morning.
Judicial Speed and Restorative Measures
The case drew significant attention from the Tamil Nadu state administration. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had explicitly directed law enforcement to expedite the investigation and file a chargesheet within one month. The court’s ability to deliver a final verdict within four months is being viewed as a significant milestone in ensuring swift justice for victims of sexual violence.
In addition to the life sentences handed down to the perpetrators, the court has mandated compensation for the victims:
The survivor is to receive ₹7 lakhs from the state government.
The male companion is to receive ₹2 lakhs in recognition of the attack he sustained.
The court’s decision serves as a stern message regarding the state's commitment to prioritizing the prosecution of gender-based violence and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable without the traditional procedural delays.
