Mahrashtra: In a major crackdown, the cyber police of Pimpri-Chinchwad have uncovered a sophisticated cyber fraud network operating out of villas and guest houses in Lonavala. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and a substantial quantity of electronic and financial equipment has been seized.
The accused have been identified as Monil Atulkumar Modi (24) from Mehsana, Gujarat; Ravi Gokal Prasad Jat (21) from Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh; Rudrapal Singh Gajendrasingh Chauhan (22) from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh; and Hansh Kailas Verma (19) from Borivali, Mumbai.
The case came to light following a complaint from a victim who alleged being defrauded of ₹97.7 lakh under the pretext of share trading investments.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Shivaji Pawar, the accused had been operating from rented villas in Lonavala, where they used multiple current bank accounts to channel and circulate funds obtained through cyber fraud. Acting on intelligence inputs, police teams conducted extensive searches across approximately 400 to 500 villas in the area before successfully apprehending the suspects.
During the operation, authorities seized several items, including a laptop, seven mobile phones, 14 debit cards, web cameras, and bank kits used to facilitate fraudulent transactions. Preliminary investigations have revealed that more than ₹1 crore was routed through a single account operated by the accused.
Police officials further disclosed that the suspects had opened multiple bank accounts across different institutions and misused them for illicit financial activities. In a significant revelation, the accused reportedly confessed that their operations were remotely monitored from abroad through web cameras, indicating a possible international dimension to the racket.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officials, including Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awad, and DCP Dr. Shivaji Pawar. The cyber police team, led by Inspector Ravikiran Nale, along with other officers, played a crucial role in executing the operation.
Further investigation is underway to identify additional links and potential accomplices involved in the network.
