Two Charged Following Brutal Roadside Assault in County Tipperary; Victim Remains Critical

A woman and a teenage girl have been charged in connection with a violent roadside assault in County Tipperary that has left a 29-year-old woman in critical condition.

The victim, Scarlett Faulkner, a mother of one from Limerick, is currently fighting for her life at Cork University Hospital following the attack, which occurred on Saturday evening along the R494 near Birdhill.

According to reports, the vehicle in which Ms Faulkner was travelling was deliberately forced off the road. She was then allegedly dragged from the vehicle and subjected to a sustained and severe assault. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Ms Faulkner suffered serious head injuries and was initially airlifted to University Hospital Limerick before being transferred to Cork University Hospital for specialist care.

On Thursday morning, Gardaí from Nenagh arrested a woman in her 40s and a teenage girl at a residence in Limerick in connection with the incident. Both suspects were detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Garda stations in County Tipperary.

Authorities have since confirmed that both individuals have been formally charged and are scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Limerick District Court at approximately 5:00 pm on Saturday, March 28.

A Garda spokesperson stated that investigations are ongoing and urged the public not to circulate video footage of the incident on social media. Instead, individuals in possession of such material have been asked to submit it directly to investigators.

Gardaí have also appealed for witnesses and information relating to two vehicles believed to be linked to the incident: a grey 162 Ford Transit van and a blue 161 Volkswagen Touran. Both vehicles were reportedly seen travelling in convoy or being driven dangerously in the Birdhill area and surrounding townlands—including Cooleen, Crag Cross, Shower Cross, Kylebeg, Annaholty and Thornhill—between approximately 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm on the day of the assault.

Road users who were travelling along the R494 between Birdhill and the M7 motorway between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Saturday, March 21, and who may have dash-cam or other footage, are urged to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda station.
