A 20-year-old man, identified as Soham Naik, has been arrested in Goa over allegations of sexually abusing minor girls and circulating explicit videos on social media, in a case that has triggered widespread outrage.
According to police, the accused is the son of a local BJP councillor, Sushant Naik. The case came to light after two minor girls approached authorities with complaints, prompting an immediate investigation.
Serious Charges Under POCSO and IT Laws
Police have registered a case against the accused under multiple provisions, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the Goa Children’s Act, relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and the Information Technology Act.
The charges include sexual exploitation of minors and the creation and distribution of obscene content, both of which are considered grave offences under Indian law.
Public Outrage and Police Action
The incident, reported from the Curchorem area, sparked protests in the locality, with residents gathering outside a police station demanding strict action against the accused.
Following the arrest, authorities have intensified the investigation, which has now been handed over to the Crime Branch for further probe. Police officials stated that, given the seriousness of the allegations, the case is being treated with high priority.
