Two Suspects in Jewellery Robbery Cases Arrested After Police Encounter in Bihar’s Siwan

Bihar: In a significant development, police in Siwan have arrested two individuals allegedly involved in multiple jewellery robbery cases following a brief encounter operation early Wednesday morning.

According to officials, the operation was launched after police received specific intelligence about the presence of the suspects in the Lahaji–Basantpur area under the Basantpur police station limits. Acting swiftly, a special team was formed to cordon off the area and prevent the accused from escaping.

Exchange of Fire During Operation

Police stated that upon reaching the location, the situation quickly escalated when the suspects, realising they were surrounded, attempted to flee and opened fire at the police team. Officers retaliated in self-defence, leading to a brief exchange of fire before the suspects were overpowered and taken into custody.

The incident caused panic in the locality, although authorities confirmed that no civilians were harmed during the operation.

Accused Identified, Injured During Encounter

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohit Sharma and Rohit Kumar. Both sustained bullet injuries to their legs during the encounter and were immediately shifted to a nearby government hospital. Doctors have confirmed that they are out of danger and currently undergoing treatment.

Links to Organised Robbery Network

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were part of an organised gang targeting jewellery shops across various regions of Bihar. Police sources indicate that both individuals have multiple criminal cases registered against them and had been absconding for a considerable period.

Officials stated that the arrests are expected to yield crucial leads regarding other members of the network and unsolved robbery cases. Further interrogation is underway to uncover additional details.

Relief for Local Residents

The successful operation has brought a sense of relief to residents in the area, who had been concerned about the rising incidents of organised theft. Police have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the broader network, with more arrests likely in the coming days.
