The India on Friday announced that it will grant one-month visa extensions and waive overstay penalties for foreign nationals stranded in the country due to travel disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The relief measures were announced by the Consulate General of India in Dubai, which said the decision was intended to assist travellers unable to depart from India as flight operations to several destinations remain disrupted due to instability in the Gulf region.
According to the official statement, all categories of visas and e-visas that have expired or are due to expire shortly will be extended by one month free of charge. The extensions will be processed by the jurisdictional Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs) on a case-by-case basis.
Authorities also clarified that overstay penalties for affected foreign nationals will be waived if their stay in India exceeded visa limits due to the ongoing developments in West Asia after February 28, 2026.
In addition, the government said exit permits will be issued to stranded travellers, and the absence of an exit permit or visa extension during the disruption period will not be treated as a violation of India’s immigration regulations.
India has also decided to grant Temporary Landing Permits (TLPs) free of charge to foreign nationals whose flights are diverted to Indian airports due to airspace disruptions across West Asia.
The measures come as the war involving Iran entered its 14th day, with no immediate resolution in sight. The conflict has significantly disrupted energy supplies, international aviation routes, and regional security across the Gulf.
According to preliminary estimates, more than 2,000 people have been killed since the fighting began—most of them in Iran, with additional casualties reported in Lebanon and other parts of the Gulf. The escalating violence has also displaced millions of civilians, marking one of the most serious regional crises in recent decades.
