Washington: Joe Kent, the head of the US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), has resigned as the military campaign against Iran continues in earnest.
The resignation is based on allegations that a war with Iran is not in America's interest and that the Trump administration started the war under pressure from Israel and its powerful lobbies in the US.
Joe Kent announced his resignation via social media platform X. He is the highest-ranking official to resign from the Trump administration since the escalation of tensions in the Middle East. He said it was a well-considered decision and that he could not unconscionably support a war in Iran.
“I am resigning as head of NCTC. God save America,” Kent said, adding that Iran has never been a threat to the United States.
He has strongly criticized the American military for being pushed into war to protect Israel's interests.
He sent a lengthy letter to President Donald Trump explaining the reasons behind his decision to resign. The letter makes serious allegations that the Israeli lobby's interference is influencing US foreign policy. Kent points out that in the current situation, continuing the war is more about protecting other interests than US security.
As the war in the Middle East continues indefinitely, this resignation from the head of the intelligence community has also been discussed internationally. The revelations of Joe Kent, the head of the intelligence community that defends terrorist threats against the country, have put the White House on the defensive. The fact that the head of the NCTC, which handles vital security information, has questioned the relevance of the war will be a setback for Trump's war strategies.
After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.

I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this… pic.twitter.com/prtu86DpEr
Washington is concerned that Joe Kent's resignation will spark similar discontent among other officials within the administration. Kent's revelations are sure to open the way for major discussions in US politics in the coming days.
