Five men have been detained following an incident in south Dublin on Thursday afternoon involving a vehicle that failed to stop for Gardaí and was later involved in a collision with two other cars.
The incident began at approximately 1.40pm when a car carrying five occupants failed to comply with a Garda stop in the Knocklyon area of Dublin 16. The vehicle subsequently collided with two cars driven by members of the public on Grange Road in Rathfarnham.
Following the collision, all five occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. They were pursued by Gardaí with assistance from the Garda Air Support Unit and were subsequently detained at various Garda stations across the Dublin Metropolitan Region.
Two of those detained—a man in his 50s and a juvenile—were arrested under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act and held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The juvenile has since been released pending further investigation.
A third man, in his 20s, was arrested on foot of a bench warrant. The remaining two men, also in their 20s, were detained under the Misuse of Drugs Act for search purposes and were later released without charge.
The three occupants of the vehicles struck in the collision were taken to Tallaght Hospital for medical assessment.
Gardaí have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
