India on Wednesday issued a renewed advisory for its nationals in Iran, strongly urging them to “expeditiously exit” the conflict-affected country amid escalating regional tensions.
In an official post on X, the Indian Embassy in Tehran advised citizens to depart using designated routes communicated by the mission. It cautioned against independently approaching international land borders without prior coordination.
“It is again reiterated that there should be no attempt to approach any international land border without prior consultation and coordination with the Embassy,” the statement said.
The Embassy also released emergency contact numbers — +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, +989932179359 — along with the email address cons.tehran@mea.gov.in for immediate assistance.
This advisory was issued just hours after a temporary ceasefire was announced between the United States and Iran. Notably, a previous advisory issued on Tuesday evening had urged Indian nationals to remain indoors and stay where they were for at least 48 hours.
The developments follow a sharp warning from U.S. President Donald Trump, who cautioned that a “whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran failed to lift its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by a specified deadline.
According to official estimates, approximately 9,000 Indian nationals — including a significant number of students — were present in Iran when hostilities began on February 28, following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel. So far, around 1,800 individuals have been successfully repatriated.
US–Iran Ceasefire Developments
In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, just ahead of the expiration of President Trump’s deadline to take decisive military action.
The agreement reportedly followed discussions involving Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, who urged restraint and proposed mediation efforts.
Pakistan has since offered to host negotiations in Islamabad on April 10, aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting resolution. Tehran has confirmed its willingness to participate in talks with Washington, signaling a possible diplomatic pathway to de-escalate the conflict that erupted following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes earlier this year.
