Vijay’s TVK Mounts Sharp Attack on Ruling Parties, Pledges “Honest Government”

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Thursday launched a strong attack on the ruling establishment, alleging widespread corruption and inadequate public infrastructure, while promising that his party would deliver an “honest government” if voted to power.

Addressing supporters, Vijay claimed that the current regime was marked by large-scale corruption, alleging irregularities worth thousands of crores. He also raised concerns over the condition of government schools, citing poor infrastructure and the lack of basic facilities, including adequate sanitation.

He further criticised both the DMK and the BJP, accusing them of failing to fulfil electoral promises and urging voters not to place their trust in either party. “We will form an honest government. Give me one chance,” he said.

Nomination Filing in Trichy East

Vijay filed his nomination papers from the Trichy East constituency, where he is set to contest against sitting DMK MLA Inigo S. Irudayaraj. He had earlier submitted his nomination from Perambur on March 30, making him a candidate from two constituencies.

In Perambur, he is scheduled to face DMK’s R. D. Sekar in a seat that was previously considered a stronghold of the CPI(M) until 2016.

A large number of TVK supporters gathered at Tiruchirappalli Airport to welcome the actor-turned-politician during his arrival for the nomination process.

Campaign Promises and Manifesto

As part of his campaign, Vijay recently unveiled TVK’s manifesto, which includes proposals such as anti-drug protection zones in schools and colleges, timely conduct of government examinations, and targeted measures to promote youth employment and entrepreneurship.

The manifesto also promises monthly financial assistance of ₹4,000 for graduates and ₹2,000 for diploma holders, as part of a broader employment support initiative.

Election Timeline

Tamil Nadu is scheduled to go to the polls in a single phase on April 23 across all 234 assembly constituencies. Counting of votes is set for May 4. The main electoral contest is expected to be between the DMK-led alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
