Arms, Fake Currency and Forged Documents Recovered from AMU Hostel Room; Student Absconding

Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh: A police raid at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has led to the recovery of illegal arms, counterfeit currency, and forged documents from a hostel room, raising fresh concerns over security within the campus.

The operation was carried out at Sir Ziauddin Hall in connection with an investigation into a recent firing incident reported from the FM Tower area two days earlier. Acting on leads, police conducted a search of a hostel room allegedly occupied by a second-year student identified as Shahbaz, also known as “Chhotu.”
According to officials, the search yielded a significant cache of incriminating materials, including a country-made .32 bore pistol magazine, four .315 bore cartridges, one 9mm round, four 12-bore cartridges, and several spent shells. Additionally, six counterfeit ₹100 notes, eight mobile phones, and a laptop were recovered from the premises.
Of particular concern were the forged academic records found in the room. Police reported discovering two high school mark sheets bearing Shahbaz’s name but reflecting different ages, along with multiple admission documents under separate identities. This has raised suspicions that the accused may have secured entry into the university using fraudulent credentials.
Accused Absconds During Raid
The accused reportedly fled the scene before police could apprehend him. An FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines Police Station, and a manhunt is currently underway. Authorities have also identified several associates during the course of the investigation, some of whom have already been taken into custody.
Security Concerns Resurface
The incident has reignited debate over alleged unauthorized occupancy and illegal activities within university hostels. While AMU authorities have previously taken steps to address overcrowding and unlawful residency, the latest recovery has intensified scrutiny of campus security protocols.
Police officials stated that the raid was based on credible intelligence linked to the earlier firing case. Further action will depend on forensic examination of the seized materials and the arrest of the absconding accused. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities examining all possible angles.
