Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a significant setback after batter Ayush Mhatre was ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2026 due to injury.
The franchise confirmed the development in an official statement on Tuesday, April 21, stating that Mhatre sustained a left hamstring injury while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. The injury is expected to require a rehabilitation period of six to twelve weeks.
Key Performer for CSK
Mhatre’s absence comes as a major blow to CSK, given his impressive form in the ongoing season. Batting at No. 3, the right-handed Mumbai batter had emerged as a key contributor, scoring 201 runs in six matches.
He delivered notable performances at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, including a 73-run innings against Punjab Kings and a 59-run knock against Delhi Capitals.
Replacement Likely
In Mhatre’s absence, Urvil Patel is expected to step into the No. 3 position for Chennai Super Kings in the remaining fixtures of the tournament.
The franchise has extended its wishes for Mhatre’s swift recovery as it looks to adjust its batting lineup for the crucial phase of the season.
