Driver’s Death in Gujarat Lake Initially Reported as Suicide Turns Out to Be Murder

A case initially believed to be a suicide has taken a dramatic turn after police investigations revealed that a 22-year-old man was allegedly murdered following a dispute over money.

The victim, Santosh Gwalla, a native of Padrach village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, was working as a driver for a private company and had been residing in Lamba village for employment purposes.

Suspicion Over Suicide Claim

According to the victim’s elder brother, Ramshakal Gwalla, he initially received a call from Santosh’s friend, Ramnaresh Saket, who mentioned that Santosh was unhappy with his job and was looking for alternative employment.

On April 6, Ramnaresh informed the family that he and Santosh had gone for a walk near a lake after breakfast, during which Santosh allegedly jumped into the water. He claimed he was unable to save him.

However, the account raised suspicions. Ramshakal, accompanied by the company owner, travelled from Rajkot to Lamba village and questioned Ramnaresh. Finding inconsistencies in his statements, he approached the police and filed a formal complaint.

Murder Over Financial Dispute

During police interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. According to investigators, the two had gone to a lake near the village gate with food and water. While eating, Santosh asked Ramnaresh to pay for the breakfast expenses, which he refused.

The disagreement escalated into a heated argument. In a fit of anger, Ramnaresh allegedly pushed Santosh into the water-filled lake and then threw stones at him, resulting in his death.

Body Recovery and Investigation

Following the incident, fire brigade personnel recovered Santosh’s body from the lake after extensive efforts. The body was sent to Kalyanpur Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police officials stated that the two had an ongoing dispute over financial transactions, which ultimately led to the fatal confrontation. Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, Kalyanpur police have taken the accused into custody and initiated further legal proceedings.
