Ghaziabad: Rape Accused Injured in Police Encounter, Arrested After Brief Chase

GHAZIABAD – In a swift tactical operation, the Ghaziabad Police have arrested a man accused of the brutal sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl in the Indirapuram locality. The suspect, identified as Alphasuddin (alias Bhalu), was taken into custody following an armed encounter with law enforcement officials late Thursday night.

The Incident

According to official police reports, the crime occurred on the night of April 15–16. The perpetrator allegedly trespassed into a shanty located within a construction site. After sexually assaulting the minor, the suspect reportedly fled the scene with ₹11,000 in cash. The gravity of the crime sparked immediate outrage and concern across the district, prompting the formation of specialized police teams to track the fugitive.

The Police Encounter and Arrest

The breakthrough occurred during a routine checkpoint operation when officers spotted a suspicious individual. Upon being ordered to halt, the suspect attempted to evade capture by fleeing into a nearby green belt area.

"When cornered by our teams, the suspect opened fire in an attempt to escape," a police spokesperson stated. "In the ensuing retaliatory fire, the suspect sustained gunshot wounds to both legs."

Alphasuddin was neutralized and immediately transported to a local hospital, where he remains under police custody while receiving medical treatment.

Investigation and Recovery

During the post-arrest search, law enforcement recovered:

  • One country-made pistol

  • Two spent cartridges and one live round

  • ₹10,000 in cash (believed to be part of the stolen loot)

Preliminary interrogations revealed that the suspect is a habitual offender and a narcotics addict. He confessed to spending approximately ₹1,000 of the stolen money on drugs and claimed to have sold his mobile phone shortly after the incident.

Legal Action

The Ghaziabad Police have formally charged Alphasuddin under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape and robbery.

Authorities have assured that the investigation is being fast-tracked to ensure a rigorous legal trial for the survivor and her family.
