A shocking murder case has emerged from Chandrapur, where a young man allegedly strangled his live-in partner using a mobile charger cable following a minor dispute, and later attempted to pass off the incident as suicide. The crime came to light nearly 20 days later after the postmortem report contradicted initial claims.
According to police, the incident occurred in the Durgapur area of Chandrapur. The accused, identified as 22-year-old Ankesh Yogesh Bahirwar from Sonapur in Tahsil Sawali, had been living in a live-in relationship with the victim, 29-year-old Priyanka, who was residing separately from her husband.
Investigators revealed that the couple had been staying together on the upper floor of Priyanka’s residence. While their relationship initially appeared stable, frequent disputes reportedly emerged over time due to personal differences and ongoing tensions. Police sources indicated that disagreements and communication issues contributed to repeated conflicts between the two.
On the night of March 14, Ankesh reportedly contacted Priyanka’s father, claiming that she had lost consciousness and suggesting that she may have died by suicide. Family members rushed to the scene and found her unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. At the time, the case was initially believed to be a suicide.
However, the postmortem report, released nearly three weeks later, revealed that the cause of death was asphyxiation, ruling out suicide and pointing towards homicide. Following this, police took the accused into custody for questioning, during which he reportedly confessed to the crime.
Further investigation by the Durgapur police led to the recovery of the mobile charger cable and extension cord allegedly used in the murder from the scene. A case of murder has been registered against the accused, and further proceedings are currently underway under the supervision of senior officials.
The case underscores the critical role of forensic evidence in uncovering the truth behind suspicious deaths and ensuring justice is served.
