A shocking case has emerged from Kanpur, where a police constable has been arrested on serious charges of alleged sexual assault and blackmail of a college student.
According to police, the accused—identified as Yogendra Singh, a resident of Aligarh and posted at the Kanpur Police Lines—first came into contact with the victim during a train journey on January 19. The student was reportedly travelling to appear for an examination when the constable initiated a conversation and gradually established familiarity.
Posing as a helpful official, Singh allegedly offered assistance, claiming he could help her secure a job in Kanpur. He is said to have gained her trust by assuring support and encouraging her to focus on her studies, while also sharing his contact details.
“I'm posted in Kanpur and originally from Aligarh. If you face any issues here, let me know. Complete your exams and stay in touch—I can help you find a job,” he reportedly told the student.
Investigators allege that after gaining her confidence, the accused lured the victim with promises of employment and marriage. He later invited her to meet him, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. The accused is also alleged to have recorded obscene videos of the victim and used them to threaten her with public circulation.
Following the victim’s complaint, police registered a case and promptly arrested the accused. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the allegations and gather supporting evidence.
The incident has raised serious concerns over misuse of authority and the vulnerability of young women to exploitation under false promises.
