A man in his 50s has died following a serious road traffic collision in Castletownroche on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:50 pm, when the vehicle he was driving was involved in a single-car crash. He was the sole occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased has been transferred to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is due to be conducted.
In a statement, Garda Síochána confirmed that a technical examination of the scene is currently underway by forensic collision investigators. The road remains closed, with authorities indicating it is expected to reopen by approximately 6:00 pm.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward. Road users who were in the area between 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm, particularly those with dashcam or other video footage, are urged to assist the investigation.
