SHREVEPORT, LA — Authorities are investigating a devastating series of connected shootings that left nine people dead, including six children, across Shreveport and Bossier Parish early Sunday morning. Officials have characterized the massacre as a domestic incident.
Sequence of Events
The violence unfolded across three distinct crime scenes, beginning in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. Shreveport Police responded to the primary scene in the 300 block of West 79th Street, where the majority of the casualties were discovered.
As the investigation expanded, detectives identified two additional related locations:
- Harrison Street, between Wallace and Bernstein Avenues in Shreveport.
- Brompton Lane, near Long Acre Drive in Bossier Parish.
Victim and Suspect Information
Police confirmed a harrowing death toll, noting that the victims’ ages ranged from 18 months to 14 years old. In addition to the fatalities, two adult women sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds to the head; both are currently hospitalized. A young boy also suffered injuries after jumping from a roof in a desperate attempt to escape the gunfire.
The unidentified suspect, an adult male, was located at the Bossier Parish scene. Authorities confirmed he died from a gunshot wound, though they have not yet clarified if the wound was self-inflicted or the result of an exchange with law enforcement.
Investigation and Response
By mid-morning Sunday, the 79th Street scene remained cordoned off by approximately 30 police units. Forensic teams and investigators continue to process evidence to establish a definitive timeline of the tragedy.
"This appears to be a domestic-related incident that escalated into unthinkable violence," a police spokesperson stated during a brief press conference.
Local advocacy groups and trauma counselors are expected to be deployed to assist the grief-stricken Cedar Grove community as the investigation continues. Names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
