Nashik TCS Case: SIT Alleges Grooming and Coercion in Conversion Probe

The alleged religious conversion case involving employees at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik has taken a serious turn, with investigators pointing to a pattern of systematic grooming and coercion, according to prosecution submissions.

As per findings presented by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), the prime accused, Nida Khan, is alleged to have gradually influenced the complainant by introducing religious practices and materials. Investigators claim the victim was encouraged to observe Roza, wear a burqa and hijab, and perform namaz, with assistance from religious mobile applications that were reportedly installed on her phone. Authorities allege that these actions were part of a sustained effort to facilitate religious conversion.

The complainant has further accused co-workers, including Danish Shaikh and Tausif Attar, of sexual exploitation and harassment. According to her statement, one of the accused allegedly exploited her under the pretext of marriage, while another subjected her to inappropriate conduct. She also claimed that she was repeatedly pressured to change her religion, with warnings that refusal could bring harm or misfortune to her family.

Investigators have also indicated a potential international dimension to the case. Preliminary findings suggest that plans were allegedly made to change the victim’s name to “Haniya” and arrange employment in Malaysia through overseas contacts. Authorities are currently examining digital evidence, financial trails, and possible network linkages to determine the extent of the alleged conspiracy.

The complainant, who has identified herself as belonging to a Scheduled Caste community, has led police to invoke provisions under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case now involves multiple serious charges, including allegations of coercion, exploitation, and abuse of vulnerability.

During an in-camera hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar informed the court that critical leads have emerged, emphasising the need for custodial interrogation of the primary accused to advance the investigation. However, the defence has denied all allegations, maintaining that the accusations are unfounded.

The court has reserved its order on Nida Khan’s anticipatory bail plea until May 2. The case, which involves allegations against eight senior employees of the Nashik unit of TCS, has drawn significant attention due to its serious legal and social implications.
