The Government of Uttar Pradesh has approved the construction of three new bridges over the Hindon River, in a significant infrastructure push aimed at improving connectivity in Ghaziabad and neighbouring districts, including Baghpat.
The project has been entrusted to the Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam, with the bridges to be constructed across three assembly constituencies—Modinagar, Loni, and Muradnagar—ensuring widespread regional impact.
Strategic Locations Identified
Officials confirmed that the proposal, which had been pending for several years, has now received formal approval. The three locations finalised for the bridges are Mataur (Modinagar), Bhadouli (Muradnagar), and Farukhnagar (Loni), selected to address long-standing connectivity gaps across the region.
The approval follows sustained efforts by local legislators, including Manju Shiwach, Ajitpal Tyagi, and Nandkishore Gurjar, who had repeatedly highlighted the urgent need for improved infrastructure in their constituencies.
Addressing Long-Standing Connectivity Issues
Currently, several villages along the Hindon river face severe connectivity challenges. In areas such as Mataur in Modinagar and Daulcha in Baghpat, the absence of proper road links forces residents to rely on boats to cross the river, often risking their safety. Others are compelled to take lengthy detours via road to access nearby districts.
Benefits for Rural Communities
The new bridges are expected to directly benefit residents of more than 20 villages, including Niwadi, Suhana, Bhaneda, and Mahmadpur. The improved connectivity will facilitate easier transportation of agricultural produce, enhance access to education and employment, and reduce travel time for daily commuters.
Dr Manju Shiwach noted that the demand for a bridge near Mataur village had persisted for decades and that the project would significantly shorten travel distances between Ghaziabad and Baghpat. Similarly, Ajitpal Tyagi stated that the bridge at Bhadouli would promote regional development and help ease traffic congestion.
Importance of Hindon River Connectivity
The Hindon river, originating in Saharanpur and flowing through Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Baghpat, and Ghaziabad before merging with the Yamuna near Noida, spans approximately 400 kilometres. Within Ghaziabad alone, it runs for about 37 kilometres, effectively dividing several localities and underscoring the need for additional crossing points.
With the approval of these three bridges, authorities aim to strengthen regional infrastructure, improve mobility, and support economic activity across both urban and rural areas in western Uttar Pradesh.
