UPSC Aspirant Found Dead in Delhi; Former Domestic Worker Suspected

A young civil services aspirant was found dead at her residence in South Delhi on Wednesday morning, with investigators suspecting sexual assault and murder. Police have identified a former domestic worker as the prime suspect and launched a manhunt to trace him.

The victim, the daughter of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was discovered inside her home in Kailash Hills under suspicious circumstances. According to police, her parents had left the house early in the morning for their routine walk and gym session. On returning around 8:30 a.m., they found the front door ajar and their daughter lying unresponsive inside.

A PCR call was made shortly thereafter, and responding officers shifted the victim to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

Preliminary findings indicate signs of a struggle, with investigators suspecting that the victim was assaulted before being strangled using a mobile phone charging cable. Visible injury marks were also noted on the body. Officials said that confirmation of sexual assault will depend on the post-mortem report.

Police suspect the involvement of a 19-year-old former domestic worker, identified as Rahul, originally from Rajasthan. He had been employed at the residence for approximately eight months before being dismissed two months ago.

According to investigators, the dismissal followed allegations of financial misconduct, with the suspect accused of siphoning money while procuring household supplies. CCTV footage from the area reportedly captured him near the residence around 6:00 a.m. on the day of the incident. He remains absconding.

Police believe the suspect may have targeted the victim knowing that her parents would be away during early morning hours. Authorities are also examining whether any valuables were stolen from the house.

The incident has triggered political reactions, with Saurabh Bharadwaj criticising the administration over law and order concerns in the national capital.

An investigation is ongoing as police continue efforts to apprehend the accused and establish the full sequence of events.
