In a significant development amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, US President Donald Trump has indicated that peace talks between the United States and Iran may resume as early as this week. The announcement comes alongside a separate diplomatic breakthrough, with Israel and Lebanon agreeing to initiate direct negotiations—marking progress on two critical fronts in efforts to de-escalate the regional conflict.
In an interview with the New York Post, President Trump suggested that fresh rounds of negotiations with Iran could take place in Pakistan within the next few days. Supporting this development, officials from Gulf nations, Pakistan, and Iran have also indicated that delegations from Washington and Tehran are expected to reconvene in Pakistan later this week, although a formal schedule has yet to be confirmed, according to Reuters.
The renewed diplomatic push follows a deadlock in earlier talks held in Islamabad. In response to stalled negotiations, the United States reportedly initiated a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports along the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz earlier this week.
Meanwhile, in a parallel diplomatic effort, Israel and Lebanon have agreed to commence direct negotiations after discussions held in Washington. The talks, mediated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were described as “productive,” with both sides committing to continue dialogue at a mutually agreed time and venue.
The twin developments signal cautious optimism for easing tensions in a region long marked by geopolitical volatility.
