Kerala politics witnessed a thriller fight for the Chief Minister, the Congress high command has announced V.D. Satheesan as the Chief Minister.

New Delhi: V.D. Satheesan is the new captain of Kerala. Ending days of uncertainty, dramatic discussions and power-pulling, the Congress high command has announced V.D. Satheesan as the Chief Minister.

Although the majority of the MLAs supported K.C. Venugopal, the public sentiment in the state, the opinions of the coalition parties, and the firm stance of the three former KPCC presidents were decisive factors in bringing the high command to Satheesan. Thus, despite being ahead in terms of MLA strength, the public sentiment and the image of a hero who had won a resounding victory pushed K.C. away and brought the high command to the name of Satheesan.

The UDF, which came to power with 102 seats, ending the ten-year communist (LDF) Pinarayi government, has been circling the Chief Minister's post for the past 10 days. Following the election results, Kerala politics witnessed a thriller fight for the Chief Minister's post. With K.C. Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala and V.D. Satheesan all vying for the post of Chief Minister, the competition within the party reached the streets.

Flex boards and posters were erected in support of the leaders, and demonstrations and protests were seen taking place. Social media was also filled with its ripples. This brought an end to the political uncertainties that had continued for 10 days. The Congress Legislature Party meeting, which was held after the election results, adjourned with a resolution leaving the decision to choose the Chief Minister to the high command.

Then AICC observers Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik met with the MLAs. They also sought the opinions of the leaders of the allied parties. However, in the meantime, a document in Mukul Wasnik's possession was leaked and indications that it was a list in favor of K.C. Venugopal opened the way for a major rift within the party. After receiving the observers' report, the high command had summoned senior leaders of the state to Delhi.

The final decision regarding the Chief Minister was taken after discussions with Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. The All India Congress Committee will call a press conference in Delhi at 12 noon to announce the Congress Chief Minister of Kerala. It is indicated that the Congress observer for Kerala, Deepa Das Munshi, will announce the name of the Chief Minister. Observers Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik will also participate in the press conference along with Deepa Das Munshi. This morning, Rahul Gandhi will meet K.C. After an hour-long discussion with Venugopal, the decision was delayed. After this, Rahul and Priyanka held another discussion with KC. Meanwhile, Deepa Das Munshi and the observers met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
