New Delhi: The Indian government has appointed Lieutenant General N.S. Rajasubramanian as the country's new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan as the new Chief of the Navy.
Raja Subrahmanyam will be appointed to replace the current CDS General Anil Chauhan, who will retire on May 30. Krishna Swaminathan will take over as the Navy chief after Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi retires on May 31. Both are expected to take charge by the end of May.
Lieutenant General N.S. Rajasubrahmanyam will also serve as the Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, in addition to his CDS post. He started his military service with the Garhwal Rifles in 1985 and has over 37 years of experience. He was commissioned into the Army after studying at the National Defence Academy and has served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff and as the Military Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat. He has received several awards for his service, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Athi Vishisht Seva Medal.
Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, who has been appointed as the new Chief of the Navy, is currently serving as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1987 and has served as the commander of prominent warships including INS Vikramaditya.He has held various strategic positions in the Navy in a career spanning nearly four decades. The country has honored him with the Athi Vishisht Seva Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal.
