Ireland: From July 1, a minimum customs duty of €3 will be charged on each product ordered online from outside the EU — including the UK, US and China.
Until now, there was a discount for products priced under €150 — that discount is no longer available.
Most shoppers can pay this charge at checkout. However, those ordering from smaller retailers will receive a notification via An Post email or postcard; the parcel will only be delivered after payment has been made on the An Post portal. In addition to duty, VAT and a €6.95 admin fee may apply.
Parcels arriving at An Post depot will wait for 14 days; if charges are not paid within this period, the product will be returned. Duty or VAT will not be refunded on returned products — unless the product is defective.
There are also reports that fashion brand ASOS has stopped next-day deliveries to Ireland. The reason is that Irish orders have been moved from their Barnsley warehouse in the UK to Germany — also believed to be related to new customs regulations.
Instructions for shoppers
- Please check the shipping location before ordering.
- Make sure the customs charge is included at checkout.
- Please read the return policy carefully.
- Never pay via the link received in SMS.
