More than 30 people were killed in POK

New Delhi: More than 30 people were killed in a clash between activists of the popular group Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and Pakistani security forces in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

More than 200 people were reportedly injured. The violence was most intense in the city of Rawalakot. The JAAC protest began after 12 out of 45 seats were reserved for refugees in the assembly elections to be held on July 27.

They informed the authorities that such a change in seats would reduce regional representation. Following this, the Pakistani government declared JAAC a banned organization under the anti-terrorism law. Protests began in the region.

The protests intensified after a trader was shot dead during clashes on Friday night. Authorities say protesters attacked with weapons including automatic rifles and petrol bombs. But locals and JAAC supporters rejected the government's explanation, saying they were targeted in large numbers.

The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) is a group that has been leading the struggle for years to raise the economic and political demands of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir region. The organization has been holding protests for the past two years against price hikes, power shortages, unemployment, and Pakistan's exploitation of the region's resources.
