Murder that shocked Canada: Bishnoi gang’s ‘main handler’ killed in Surrey

Surrey: The plot of a planned murder that took place in broad daylight in Surrey last month is unraveling.

The murdered man was Gurvikramjeet Singh Waring, the Canadian mastermind of the prominent Indian underworld gangster Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, according to an investigative report released by the Canadian media ‘CBC Fifth Estate’. Five weeks after the murder, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officially confirmed that the deceased was Gurvikramjeet Singh Waring (35), who was known by the alias ‘Sam Canada’.

Waring was attacked on May 4 while he was in a rented office inside a business complex in Surrey. Two gunmen walked into the office and shot him dead before escaping safely. Shortly after Waring's death, a post appeared on the social media account of Rohit Godara, a rival of the Bishnoi gang, claiming responsibility for the murder. The post claimed that he was killed because he was a key figure in the Bishnoi gang.

Reports indicate that Waring had close ties to Cricket Canada, the governing body of cricket in Canada. He has shared several platforms with Cricket Canada's new president, Arvinder Khosa. Investigations revealed that Waring was the same person, known as 'Sam', who threatened players and officials to decide who should be included in the national team. He is also suspected of being involved in match-fixing in Canadian cricket. Interestingly, within days of Waring's murder, shots were fired at the house of Cricket Canada president, Arvinder Khosa.

Gurvikramjeet Singh Waring arrived in Canada in 2013 as a temporary foreign worker under the guise of an electrician. Later, in 2023, when the Indian government released a list of fugitive criminals from Punjab, it included the name of Waring, known as ‘Sam Canada’. India had demanded his extradition, but Canada did not take action. Meanwhile, the Canadian government had imposed a huge fine on him in 2025 for trying to smuggle foreign workers by running a fake farm business.

A criminal wanted by India The fact that Canadian intelligence could not stop him despite building a business empire and underworld connections in Canada has caused great resentment in the community. Canadian police have intensified their investigation into the murder.
