Caracas: Strong, continuous earthquakes were felt in Venezuela. 


The earthquake, measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale, has caused severe tremors in many parts of the country. The first tremor occurred at around 6 pm local time. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the first earthquake, measuring 7.1, was near Montalbán, near Moraine. This was followed seconds later by a second strong earthquake, measuring 7.5, with its epicenter 16 km southwest of Moraine. The tremors were also felt in neighboring Colombia, according to reports.

A series of earthquakes have caused widespread damage in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas. Several buildings collapsed in different parts of the city and many were seriously damaged. Initial reports indicate that more than 100 people have been injured in the earthquake. Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said the damage was extensive and rescue operations were currently underway in the areas. He urged people not to panic and to stay in safe places.

A major tsunami warning has been issued for the Caribbean region in the wake of the earthquake. In addition to Venezuela, the main tsunami warnings are for nearby islands such as Aruba and Bonaire. In addition, US agencies have also issued a strict warning for Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands.
