New Delhi: Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski has praised India's efforts to prevent the Russia-Ukraine war from escalating further.
He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin greatly values Prime Minister Narendra Modi's words and that India is one of the few countries that can influence Russia. Bartoszewski said that Prime Minister Modi is a globally respected leader and that India has a long-standing relationship with Russia. He added that India's role is crucial to prevent the conflict between Russia and Ukraine from escalating further.
He made this clear in an interview given to news agency ANI. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a statesman whom the world looks up to. India has a long-standing relationship with the Russian Federation and before that with the Soviet Union through the policy of non-alignment. President Putin listens to what Prime Minister Modi says,' he said. He also said that Prime Minister Modi had helped dissuade Russia from using nuclear weapons in war in late 2022. 'Prime Minister Modi is one of the few individuals who can put pressure and influence on President Putin.
"India can clearly intervene to end this war," he said. Bartoszewski also said that the differences between India and Poland regarding oil imports from Russia have been resolved. There was concern that buying Russian crude oil at low prices was helping Russia's war economy. However, he clarified that now that the two countries understand each other's positions, that is not a matter of discussion.
