The Immigration Services Registration Office in Dublin is currently experiencing a very high volume of applications, with some categories taking more than 17 weeks to renew their Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card.
It may take another two weeks to receive a new IRP card after the registration renewal is complete.
To facilitate non-EEA nationals legally residing in the state who wish to travel internationally during the summer and need to renew their existing permit, the Minister has issued a Travel Confirmation Notice requesting carriers to allow them to travel using their recently expired IRP card. If the application for renewal of their permit has been submitted before the expiry date of their IRP card, it can be used.
Non-EEA nationals who need to apply for an IRP card renewal can use their existing, recently expired IRP card to travel with confidence from 13 July 2026 to 31 August 2026, but their application to renew their registration permit must be submitted before the expiry date of their IRP card. This travel confirmation notice is only valid from 13 July 2026 to 31 August 2026.
- Customers should download and print this notice. Download Notice
- If requested, submit it to immigration authorities and airlines, along with their expired IRP card and proof of renewal application (email confirmation detailing the application date).

- If you are planning to travel through a third country to return to Ireland, you are strongly advised to check whether that jurisdiction can accept this travel notice to allow travel to Ireland before booking your tickets.
