ANKARA — Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, pressing for renewed diplomatic engagement and dialogue with Iran to de-escalate soaring regional tensions.
During the call, Erdogan emphasized that maximizing the use of diplomacy is crucial to breaking the ongoing stalemate between Washington and Tehran. According to a statement released by the Turkish presidency, Ankara formally offered its mediation support to help facilitate future peace efforts and ensure negotiations resume.
Diplomatic Push Amid Regional Strains
Turkey, which shares a border with Iran and maintains the second-largest military force within NATO, has consistently positioned itself as a key diplomatic interlocutor. Ankara maintains active communication channels with the United States, Iran, and regional mediators such as Qatar and Pakistan.
The high-level discussion comes at a critical juncture as international concerns mount over stalled peace efforts and stability across the wider Middle East.
