NEW DELHI — Cochin Shipyard Limited has received orders to build more than 40 ships for customers in several countries, including the United States, Germany and Norway, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said on October 8.
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, the minister said the orders reflected growing international confidence in India's shipbuilding capabilities. He also said the ministry was working to create a stronger environment for shipbuilding in the country.
The development highlights the role of the state-owned shipyard in India's efforts to expand its presence in the global maritime industry. International orders can support industrial activity, skilled employment and the growth of related businesses.
The minister also referred to interest from overseas entities in working with Indian shipyards, pointing to further opportunities for cooperation in the sector.
