KYIV — US President Donald Trump has announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure. The proposed truce would halt strikes on facilities such as power plants and oil refineries, which have been repeatedly targeted during the war. However, details of the reported agreement have not been released.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had not been informed of the arrangement in advance. He said Ukraine would support an energy ceasefire if Russia also agreed to stop its attacks. Kyiv is awaiting further details from the US side.
Zelenskyy also reported that Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities continued after the announcement, including a strike on a power plant in Kharkiv. Russia had not officially confirmed its commitment to the proposed truce at the time of reporting.
A halt to attacks on energy infrastructure could help protect electricity supplies and other essential services for civilians. Whether the announcement leads to an effective ceasefire will depend on the positions of both countries and their willingness to implement the proposal.
