NEW DELHI — Vote counting is underway for by-elections in five Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha constituency across Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Puducherry and Assam on October 9.
The Assembly seats are Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, and Thattanchavady in Puducherry. The Lok Sabha by-election is being held in Assam’s Nagaon constituency.
According to the Election Commission of India’s latest displayed Assembly results update at 10.18 am, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate K. Maragatham Kumaravel was leading in Madurantakam, while AIADMK candidate K. Banumathi was ahead in Dharapuram. AINRC candidate Ashok Anand was leading in Thattanchavady. Counting was still in progress in Nandigram and Rejinagar.
In Nagaon, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma was leading in the Election Commission’s latest displayed parliamentary results update at 9.27 am. These are provisional trends and may change as counting continues. Final results will be confirmed by the Election Commission after the counting process is completed.
