NEW DELHI — Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and Akasa Air have suspended flights to and from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, following attacks on airports in the country.
A passenger plane belonging to Saudia Airlines was badly damaged at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Thursday after debris from an intercepted missile or another projectile hit the aircraft. The plane caught fire while parked at the airport. There was no immediate confirmation of injuries from this incident.
More than 275 flights were cancelled at Riyadh airport on Thursday, according to flight-tracking data cited in media reports. Airport operations were also disrupted, leaving many travellers facing delays and cancellations.
Air India and Air India Express have cancelled their Riyadh flights until October 10, while Akasa Air has also suspended services until October 10. IndiGo has cancelled flights to and from Riyadh until October 9. Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines before travelling to the airport. Affected customers may be eligible for free rescheduling or refunds, depending on the airline’s policy.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has advised Indian nationals to remain alert, follow instructions from local authorities and avoid spreading unverified reports about the situation.
The flight suspensions are affecting Indian travellers who use Riyadh as a key link between India and Saudi Arabia. Passengers should check the latest flight information directly with their airlines before starting their journey.
