NEW DELHI — Authorities have enforced Stage II restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) as air pollution levels worsened. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 324 on November 2, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category. Following the deterioration, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directed the implementation of additional pollution-control measures. Further details of the restrictions were reported on November 3.
The measures focus on reducing dust and emissions across the region. Mechanical road sweeping will be carried out more frequently, while water sprinkling and the use of anti-smog guns will be stepped up. Authorities will intensify inspections at construction sites and strengthen enforcement against the open burning of waste. Traffic management measures will also be reinforced at busy intersections to help reduce congestion and vehicle emissions.
Residents have been urged to make greater use of public transport, share vehicles and avoid unnecessary journeys in private cars. The CAQM said weather forecasts indicated that air quality could remain in the ‘very poor’ category over the coming days. The additional restrictions are aimed at limiting pollution sources and preventing a further deterioration in air quality across Delhi-NCR.
