Amaravati: Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu is moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the Bay of Bengal, prompting authorities to step up precautionary measures. In its latest bulletin issued on November 2, the India Meteorological Department warned that the storm could bring sustained winds of 100 to 110 kmph, with gusts reaching 120 kmph.
The cyclone is expected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur, near Ongole, between 11.30 pm on Monday and 4 am on Tuesday.
Heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions are expected along coastal areas. A storm surge of around one to 1.5 metres above the normal astronomical tide could inundate low-lying areas of south coastal Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Bapatla, Krishna and Prakasam districts.
Authorities have activated emergency response arrangements and issued warnings to coastal communities. Residents have been advised to follow official weather alerts and safety instructions.
