A Chinese passenger plane with 132 people on board crashed in a mountainous area in southern China on Monday, killed all passengers and crew.

State media reported that a China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 flying from Kunming in southwest China to the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou crashed into a Guangxi Autonomous Region on Monday afternoon, igniting wildfires.

It is feared that 123 passengers and nine crew members did not escape. China Eastern, one of China's three major carriers, said the cause of the crash was under investigation just before the plane landed at a final rate of 31,000 feet per minute, according to flight tracking website Flight Radar 24.

"China has activated the Eastern Airlines emergency system, sent a working group to the scene and opened a special line for family members to provide emergency assistance," the airline said in a social media statement.

The People's Daily, the front page of the Communist Party of China, quoted a provincial fire department official as saying there was no sign of life in the wreckage. President Xi Jinping has ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident. China's record in civil aviation safety has been excellent for the past two decades, showing remarkable progress since the 1990s. The biggest plane crash involving civilians in China was in 2010.

Monday's unfortunate flight, MU 5735, departed from Kunming Airport in Yunnan Province at 1:15 pm local time and was scheduled to arrive at Guangzhou, the capital of southern China's Guangzhou province, at 3:07 pm local time.

However, the disappearance of the aircraft from the radars of the civil aviation authorities who were tracking the aircraft caused panic among the regulators. Reports of the accident came after locals who witnessed the accident reported the incident to local authorities. The accident took place in a village near Wushu City in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the local emergency department said.

Emergency workers, including firefighters, rushed to the scene. In the evening, hundreds of emergency workers from various parts of the country gathered around the crash site to search for survivors. Footage taken by villagers after the accident went viral on Chinese social media.

Unconfirmed videos showed fire and smoke from the crash site and surrounding forests as the wreckage of the plane was scattered on the ground. Xihua, the official news agency, reported that Xi had ordered all sorts of searches, rescue and "swift action" to identify the cause of the crash.

Shi said he was shocked to learn of the incident involving the China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 and ordered an immediate response to begin immediately and a ubiquitous search and rescue operation and subsequent corrective action. The cause of the accident will be investigated whether it was a human error or a technical fault.

“The aircraft, owned by China Eastern Airlines' Yunan subsidiary, has been in operation for more than six and a half years. The plane was delivered in June 2015, ”the Tabloid, Global Times reported.

The aircraft has a total of 162 seats, including 12 business class seats and 150 economy class seats. Experts wonder if the accident happened while the plane was taking off. “Usually during the cruise phase, the aircraft is under autopilot. So, it's very difficult to understand what happened, "Li Xiaojin, a Chinese aviation expert, told Reuters. "From a technical standpoint, this should not have happened," Li said
