Britain on Thursday expressed disappointment over India's stance on Russia's occupation of Ukraine, but acknowledged that it was a key trading partner.
"We are very disappointed. We continue to work with Indian partners," said UK Trade Minister Ann-Marie Trevelian when asked if India's position would affect trade talks with her country."India is an incredibly important trading partner of the UK ... We will continue to work with countries around the world to ensure that Putin does not finance this war in the future," he was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Earlier this month, India withdrew from the UN General Assembly in a resolution condemning the Russian aggression against Ukraine, reiterating that differences could only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
The UNGA (United Nations General Assembly)resolution was similar to the one circulated in the 15-nation Security Council last month, in which India was left out. The UNSC resolution was blocked by 11 votes to three, following a permanent Russian veto.
