New data suggest that Irish employers plan to launch their largest hiring program in the second quarter of 2022, 15 years later.
Employers in Dublin report a recruitment outlook of +29 %, up 22 % year-on-year. Outside the capital, Connacht (+32%), Leinster (+35 %) and Munster (+36 %) follow this trend. In February, the Central Statistics Office set the unemployment rate at 5.2 percent. This is down from 7.5 per cent in the same period in 2021. However, 72 per cent of employers are finding it difficult to fill vacancies.
"Unemployment levels have returned to pre-Pandemic standards, but skills demand is three times higher," said John Galvin, managing director of Manpower Group Ireland. This means that skilled workers are not available in the market as required. Resolving an existing talent gap will not happen overnight. It will not be resolved by offering higher wages.
The Manpower Group's latest job perspective survey is based on responses from more than 400 employers across Ireland. The Manpower Group's question is whether employers intend to hire more workers or reduce the number of workers in the coming quarter. It found that employers plan to significantly increase the number of employees. In the second quarter, the national recruitment outlook increased by 32 percent. Irish technology and the IT sector continue to perform well with a plus-42 per cent outlook.
John Galvin, Managing Director of Manpower Group Ireland, said: Pandemic revolutionized the use of technology and IT in all areas, increasing the need for technical expertise in companies across the board. The tech sector was an early adapter of remote operation before the Pandemic, and as companies reopened, tech companies continued to offer remote and hybrid job opportunities. At a time when employers are facing a shortage of talent, this is an important consideration in making new jobs more job-friendly and diversifying talent pools to attract the right job seekers.
