German Chancellor Olaf Scholes has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit, where leaders from seven of the world's richest nations are discussing key global issues, including the Russian occupation of Ukraine, food security and terrorism.

During the summit, Modi will exchange views with the leaders of the group and its allies on energy, food security, terrorism, the environment and democracy. On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India's commitment to climate change was evident from its performance.

Speaking at the G7 session on climate, energy and health, Modi said that nine years ago, his country had achieved the target of 40 per cent energy efficiency from non-fossil sources. India accounts for 17 per cent of the world's population, but contributes only 5 per cent to global carbon emissions, he said.

The invitation to the G7 Summit is in line with the tradition of close partnership between India and Germany. After attending the summit, the Prime Minister will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on June 28.
