Leixlip: A bus carrying construction workers working at Intel's Leixlip campus caught fire this morning. No crowds of workers were injured and safely evacuated from the bus. The bus was destroyed at the back end.
More than 4,500 people currently work at Intel's Leixlip campus. The site is currently undergoing a major "multi-year" expansion project that will "double the space available in Ireland". It's used by Intel's construction offsite to evacuate people from 'park and ride' facilities. Two other buses from the same fleet helped transfer passengers on fire time.
The Kildare Fire Service said the incident had a significant impact on traffic in the area.
Maynooth and Leixlip fire stations were set on fire when a bus on R157 caught fire just before 07.00 this morning, and the rear of the bus was well lit when they arrived. The fire was clear and the situation was secured. No injuries were reported, but traffic was late at the scene. "
Intel confirmed that everyone was safely evacuated from the bus and that no one was injured.
An Intel spokesman said: "One of our buses, controlled by our main construction contractor, caught fire this morning (they use these buses to evacuate people from the offsite 'Park and Ride' facility). All were evacuated from the bus and no injuries were reported. Stop ".
