NORTHERN IRELAND : People in Northern Ireland may anticipate receiving the first of two cost of living payments starting on Wednesday, according to Advice NI.
According to Advice NI's Matt Cole, payments have begun to be distributed in other parts of the UK but won't be implemented in NI until next week. Cole was speaking on BBC Radio Ulster's On your Behalf.
He did, however, mention that issuing the payment will take some time.
The programme will be open to recipients of Universal Credit and other means-tested benefits.
According to Mr. Cole, some people will have to wait longer than others to receive their first cost of living payment.
People who qualify for the payment under the child tax credit or the working tax credit, according to him, will have to wait to autumn.
"They will get it, but if they are having trouble making ends meet right now when prices are at their highest, that's a delay for them."
According to him, individuals who get disability benefits will be qualified for a disability cost of living payment that will be released later this year.
They will be qualified for £150, he claimed.
"That will arrive in the same way they would normally receive their disability payment,"
Caregivers won't automatically be entitled to the cost of living allowance, but they will be if they are currently receiving a means-tested benefit, according to the Advice NI spokesman.
