IRELAND: Shane Nolan has been appointed CEO of Leinster Rugby

Leinster Rugby and the IRFU have this morning announced the appointment of Shane Nolan as CEO of Leinster Rugby, in succession to Mick Dawson who is retiring after 21 years in the role.

Nolan will join Leinster Rugby from Google where he is Managing Director, New Business Sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He has been a member of the Google Ireland Senior Leadership Team since 2017.

He will join Leinster Rugby as CEO in early November. Mick Dawson will continue in his current role until then to manage a seamless transition.

Nolan has a wealth of expertise leading diverse cross-functional senior teams in the fields of operations, sales, marketing, public relations, and legal.

His experience involves managing relationships with government, regulatory, community, and business organisations. Additionally, he has held non-executive positions at Buy4Now Ltd., Plan Ireland, and IAB Ireland.

He had top management positions with eircom, BT Plc, and Fujitsu before joining Google in 2011.

Debbie Carty, president of Leinster Rugby, said, "We are delighted that Shane will join Leinster Rugby as our new CEO."

"As a devoted sports fan who often attends matches, Shane has a thorough understanding of both Leinster's amateur and professional rugby. We are thrilled to have him lead our exceptional team across the organisation through our next stage of development and expansion because he has a very solid track record as a senior leader of multidisciplinary roles and teams.

"I'd want to thank Mick Dawson for his years of leadership and commitment to Leinster Rugby on behalf of all rugby fans in the province.  He is a significant contributor to Leinster Rugby's overall success and will leave a lasting legacy when he retires later this year."

Shane stood out among a very competitive pool of applications, said IRFU CEO Kevin Potts.

As Mick Dawson leaves Leinster Rugby, "Shane's remarkable senior leadership experience, rugby history, and passion for the game will give Leinster Rugby with another exceptional leader."

"We congratulate Mick for all that he has done for Leinster and Irish rugby. I look forward to working with Shane in the months and years to come."

Nolan, a native of Navan, Co. Meath, attended Castleknock College and NUIG where he played rugby for Connacht Under 20s and captained the first XV. He then played for Navan RFC and has held a season ticket to a Leinster Rugby match for ten years. At the Dublin GAA club Ranelagh Gaels, he also coaches young players.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be taking on the role of Leinster Rugby CEO,” he said.

“Leinster is a powerhouse in its field, both on and off the pitch, thanks to the brilliant leadership of Mick and all of the outstanding team at Leinster Rugby.”

“I am excited to work with everyone in the organisation as we look to embark on the next stage of development and success.”
