Galway (Ireland): Another Janmashtami has arrived with the sound of flute and the beauty of peacock. Sri. Krishna Janmashtami celebrated colorfully Galway Vandemadhavam Malayalee Community. "Krishna Janmashtami" is an annual Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Unnikanna's exploits are commemorated on Janmashtami. If there is no fear of epidemic, it is customary for Unnikannans and small Radhas to occupy the country and city streets.
Memories of Unnikannan fill the minds of devotees on Janmashtami day. Lord Vishnu incarnated in the form of Sri Krishna to eradicate the evils on earth and restore the good. It was because of the atrocities committed by Kamsan on his own mother. Krishna was born as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu on Ashtami day.
Held at Knocknakara Community Hall in County Galway on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. Many Hindus and Malayalees participated in the Sobha Yatra. Many children dressed up as Kannan and Radha, playing the flute, made the Sobha Yatra colorful. Parents who came from the country also lined up with their children and nephews.
The program started at 3.00 pm followed by Puja, Bhajan, Uriyadi followed by various cultural programs, followed by various artistic performances by children and adults.
The program was then graced with a sumptuous meal followed by the singing of the Galway Beats. The program concluded at 9.00 am with the decision to expand Janmashtami next year in collaboration with cultural groups in more counties.
