Romanian Prosecutors Formally Indict Andrew Tate on Charges of Trafficking Minors and Money Laundering

BUCHAREST — Controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate has been officially indicted by Romanian prosecutors on charges including trafficking minors, money laundering, sex with a minor, and witness tampering. His brother, Tristan Tate, was also indicted for complicity in the case.

The high-profile indictment marks a major escalation in the long-running legal troubles facing the brothers, who are dual U.S. and British citizens. According to Romania's anti-organized crime prosecuting unit, DIICOT, the charges stem from investigations alleging that the brothers recruited victims by false pretenses of romantic relationships before coercing them into producing pornographic content.

Prosecutors specifically detailed an instance involving a victim who was 15 years old when she was allegedly targeted in Britain in 2012 before being brought to Bucharest. Authorities claim the brothers generated substantial illicit revenue from the scheme, attempting to launder funds through luxury vehicle purchases.

Legal representatives for the Tates have firmly denied all allegations, stating they intend to thoroughly review the indictment and challenge any procedural or evidentiary deficiencies in court.

The brothers currently remain detained in the United States pending separate extradition proceedings requested by the United Kingdom on unrelated rape allegations. It remains undetermined whether Romanian authorities will formally seek their extradition back to Bucharest to face trial, though local statutes permit cases to proceed in absentia.
