Visas to Schengen countries are also experiencing delays. The Moneycontrol report states that 'slots are not available for visa appointments to countries including France and Iceland'.
The US Embassy is reportedly working to shorten the visa application wait time, according to The Times of India. According to a spokesperson who talked with The Times of India, attempts are being made to shorten the waiting time by prioritising particular types of visas and hiring more consular workers. Visa delays have been caused by post-Covid pandemic travel, according to officials.
Other embassies also acknowledged visa delays. “Despite the pandemic, the Canadian government welcomed more than 400,000 new permanent residents in 2021. 32% of which are Indians,” said a spokesperson for the Canadian High Commission.
After the pandemic, people began to travel more. Many people are choosing to travel on alternative schedules as a result of visa delays in numerous nations. But the crisis has hit hardest those who depend only on visas to select countries, such as students.
In the UAE, an expanded golden visa scheme, a new five-year green residency, multiple entry tourist visas and job hunting entry permits will all come into effect from next month.
