On Thursday, Air Canada stated it would buy 30 electric-hybrid regional aircraft from Heart Aerospace. This becomes the need as more airlines turn to new technologies to lower emissions and fuel costs.

Global airlines are making plans to deal with climate change as they face mounting pressure from environmental groups and regulators over the effect of billions of extra passengers expected to take to the skies in coming decades.

Up to 30 passengers can board the battery-powered aircraft being developed by Sweden-based Heart. When they go into operation in 2028, which is anticipated, they will produce no emissions. The release, however, omitted to mention the deal's value.

The arrangement between United Airlines and Heart Aerospace to buy 100 19-seat aircraft in 2021 was followed by Air Canada's contract, which also includes a USD 5 million equity share in the firm.

A Swedish startup business called Heart Aerospace is creating electric and hybrid aircraft. It is creating the ES-19, a 19-passenger regional aeroplane that is entirely electric.

Following a 2021 commitment by American airline United Airlines to purchase 100 19-seat aircraft from the company, Air Canada's arrangement, which also includes a $5 million ownership position in Heart Aerospace, is the second.
