One of the prominent Congress leaders in Kerala and former Minister of Power and Transport, Aryadan Muhammad passed away. Senior Congress leader Aryadan Muhammad (87) passed away. He was being treated for old-age ailments. He was a minister four times. EK Nayanar, AK Antony and Oommen Chandy were in charge of the departments of labour, forest, electricity and transport.
Elected to Legislative Assembly from Nilambur constituency in 1977, 1980, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011. He was the Labor and Forest Minister in the Nayanar Cabinet in 1980-81. Minister of Labor and Tourism in the Antony Cabinet (1995-96). He was the Minister for Power and Transport in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet (2004-06) and the Minister for Power during 2011-16.
He has held the leadership position of several trade unions. He died at a private hospital in Kozhikode around 7.30 am. He was admitted to the hospital last night after his illness worsened. He entered politics in 1952 as a Congress member. KPCC since 1958 is a member Worked as President of Malappuram District Congress Committee and various Trade Unions.
Screenwriter and political activist Aryadan Shaukat is the son of Aryadan Muhammad.
