President Draupadi Murmu with greetings:

Onam greetings to all Prime minister Narendra Modi:

Onam greetings to all Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan:

Legend has it that the Keralites celebrated Onam, but Sangha works reveal that Onam celebrations were held much earlier in Kerala itself and in Tamil Nadu including Madurai.
The first reference to Onam is found in the Sangha period work 'Madhuraikanchi'. Maduraikanchi inscriptions from 590 AD say that Onam is celebrated as the birthday of Thirumal (Mahavishnu). Later it became agricultural and commercial. It was during this period, after Karkatakamasa, that foreign ships used to approach Kerala for the spice trade. Thus this month which brings gold is the reason why it is called Ponnin Chingamasa and Onam as Ponnon. In Kerala, its trade was more important than harvesting.
